Defending champions Karsten and Chalupa returned to try and stop last year's runners-up Rutchow and Cop grabbing their trophies, and there were a number of new entries to the race this year, including Olympic silver medallist Guin Batten (GB). However, Helen Casey has had to withdraw, as has Aquil Abdullah due to US squad trial commitments. The athletes page carries links to biographies and athlete questionnaires.
From Aquil Abdullah: "It is with great sorry that I must decline participation in the Thames River World Sculling Challenge this year. I just got the schedule for our training and selection procedures for this year and it seems is though we will be having a speed order that will determine who will be racing in the World Cup, and going on the European tour. The speed order will be held on April 4th. Aquil."
